How To Make Bingo Bags

Do you love playing bingo but find it difficult to keep all your cards, markers, and other essentials organized? Well, we have the perfect solution for you – bingo bags! In this article, we will guide you through the process of making your very own bingo bag, so you can carry everything you need in style. Let’s get started!

Gather Your Materials

The first step in creating your bingo bag is to gather all the necessary materials. Here’s what you’ll need:

1. Fabric: Choose a sturdy fabric that is both durable and visually appealing. You can opt for cotton, denim, or even upholstery fabric, depending on your preference.
2. Lining fabric: This will be used to line the inside of your bingo bag. Choose a complementary color or pattern that matches your fabric.
3. Interfacing: This material will provide extra structure and support to your bag. Look for a medium-weight interfacing that is suitable for your chosen fabric.
4. Zipper: Select a zipper that is at least 12 inches long. You can choose a basic zipper or a decorative one, depending on your taste.
5. Thread: Make sure to choose a thread that matches or complements your fabric colors.
6. Sewing machine: While you can sew your bag by hand, using a sewing machine will make the process quicker and more efficient.
7. Scissors: A good pair of fabric scissors will be essential for cutting your materials.
8. Ruler or measuring tape: You’ll need this to measure and cut your fabric accurately.
9. Pins: These will help hold your fabric in place while sewing.
10. Optional: Embellishments such as ribbons, buttons, or sequins to personalize your bingo bag.

Start Sewing

Now that you have all your materials ready, it’s time to start sewing!

1. Measure and cut your fabric: Begin by measuring and cutting two identical rectangles, each measuring approximately 14 inches wide and 16 inches long. These will form the front and back of your bag.

2. Cut the lining fabric and interfacing: Use the same measurements as the fabric rectangles to cut two pieces from your lining fabric and interfacing.

3. Attach the interfacing: Position one piece of interfacing onto the wrong side of each fabric rectangle. Following the manufacturer’s instructions, adhere the interfacing to the fabric using an iron. This will provide stability and structure to your bag.

4. Sew the zipper: Take your zipper and measure its width. Use this measurement to trim the fabric rectangles, making them the same width as the zipper. Place the zipper face down on the right side of one fabric rectangle and align the edge of the fabric with the edge of the zipper tape. Using a zipper foot, sew along the edge of the fabric, attaching the zipper. Repeat on the other side with the remaining fabric rectangle.

5. Sew the lining: Place the lining fabric rectangles right sides together and sew along the sides and bottom, leaving the top open. You can reinforce the seams by backstitching at the beginning and end.

6. Sew the outer bag: With right sides together, sew the fabric rectangles together along the sides and bottom, leaving the top open. Again, reinforce the seams by backstitching.

7. Box the corners: On both the lining and outer bag, fold the bottom corners so that the side seam aligns with the bottom seam, creating a triangle. Mark a line about 2 inches from the tip of the triangle and sew along this line. Trim the excess fabric.

8. Attach the lining: Turn the outer bag right side out and keep the lining inside-out. Slip the lining over the outer bag so that the right sides of the outer bag and lining are touching. Align the top edges and sew around the top, leaving a small opening for turning.

9. Turn the bag right side out: Carefully pull the bag through the opening, turning it right side out. Tuck the lining inside and press the top edge.

10. Add finishing touches: Finally, sew the opening closed by hand or using your sewing machine. You can also embellish your bingo bag with ribbons, buttons, or any other decorations you desire.

Congratulations! You have successfully created your very own bingo bag. Now you can keep all your bingo essentials organized and stylishly carry them wherever you go. Enjoy your bingo sessions with ease and flair!
